This beautiful pendant from the Victorian (ca1880) era is quite a rare and special piece! Known as a “love trinket,” the pendant has a 3-dimensional design carved from banded agate, and is set in 18kt yellow gold. Beautiful, earthy swirls of tan, beige, brown, and white are present throughout the piece, which is semi-translucent and smoothly polished. Hugging the center is a gold seam with a royal blue enameled stripe. The French words “JE N’AIME QUE VOUS” travel around the enameled band, translating to the sentimental message “I Love Only You.” The seam is hinged at the back and the dome-shaped lid flips open, revealing a hollow compartment inside (perfect for storing a small treasured object, picture, or note). A gold base rests at the bottom, allowing the piece to stand freely. Riveted into the top is an engraved gold handle that serves as the bail. This beautiful and unusual piece is perfect for storing a small treasured object, picture, or note. It would look wonderful worn on a gold chain and would make a special addition to any collection!
Measurements: The pendant hangs 1 1/8″ long (including the bail at the top). At the widest and thickest point, it measures 3/4″ across, and the base has a 1/2″ diameter. The urn itself measure 7/8″ tall when freestanding (not including the bail).
Condition: The overall condition of the pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the yellow gold or carved agate. There is some surface wear to the enamel design, which is normal for a Victorian era piece, but the condition is still very good. The pendant opens easily and stays securely closed, and the bail is secure and intact.
