Victorian Cut Steel Fan Motif Earrings A. Brandt + Son

Cut Steel is polished steel faceted studs riveted to a steel backing to fashion jewelry, ornaments and buttons. Motifs varied from the simple to the sublime, with multiple layers and densely packed studs. Designs could be enhanced by the use of varying sized studs and each stud could have up to 15 facets. Popular throughout the Georgian and Victorian eras, in general the finer and older the piece, the more facets the studs will have. Made in both England and Europe, this style of jewelry fell out of favor by the turn of the 19th century, but continues to be very collectable with Victorian jewelry collectors!

A wonderful example of cut steel from the Victorian (ca1850) era! Each of these lovely earrings hang from a sterling silver wire attached to a simple bar. Particularly large in size, they display wonderful craftsmanship and have a simply beautiful fan inspired look. Each earring is attractive and has an ornate cutout design. The entire front surface is comprised of dozens of delicate cut steel studs, which vary in size and shape. Each earring reveals the handmade workmanship on the reverse side of the piece. The front of each earring resembles a glittering metal mosaic that catches the light perfectly. These outstanding earrings have made their way throughout history and would look stunning worn by a modern day woman. Beautiful and artistic, they would make an impressive addition to any collection!

Measurements: The earrings hang approximately 3 3/4″ long, and about 1 7/8″ wide.

Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the metal and all of the faceted cut steel studs are intact and in good condition.
