A unusual diamond ring from the Victorian (ca1880) era! The engagement-style ring has a lovely mixed metals design crafted in 14kt yellow gold and sterling silver. A sparkling rose cut diamond rests at the center, held within a sterling silver bezel. The diamond weighs approximately 0.75ct and sparkles beautifully within the open-backed setting. Surrounding the stone is an open channel followed by a gold beveled frame and the shoulders have an elaborate heavily carved design with a stunning floral motif. The wide shoulders taper towards the back where the band because a simple smooth gold and the shank is stamped “K18.” which has been faded slightly due to resizing. It’s a truly fabulous piece that could be worn by a woman or a man, and would make a special addition to any collection. It could also make a superb diamond engagement ring!
Measurements: The ring has a finger size 7 but could easily be resized. The diamond centerpiece, including the sterling bezel, measures 8mm in diameter. The band measures 11mm at the widest point and 4mm wide at the least wide point.
Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling and gold setting or to the rose cut diamond, which is intact and securely set. The diamond displays some natural inclusions that are normal for a genuine stone, and do not detract from its beauty, nor are they noticeable when the ring is worn. Due to the hand cut nature of old rose cut diamonds, the stone does not have perfect symmetry; this reflects the age and genuine appearance of an antique diamond.
